Haycock is a 797 m Wainwright in the western fells, above Wasdale and Ennerdale. A remote high fell on the Ennerdale fence, a long way from the nearest road and usually part of a Mosedale round. A usual day starts from Wasdale Head and takes about 6–8 hours. This guide grades it strenuous, judging distance and steepness in fair summer conditions. Read a mountain forecast before a high fell, and turn back if the ridge is in wind, cloud, or ice.
