The Lake District Guide

Terms of service

Last updated: 29 March 2026

These terms govern your use of The Lake District Guide website and services. By using the site, creating an account, or submitting content, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

The service

We publish information about the Lake District (locations, events, offers, businesses, and related content). Much of the directory and listings content is supplied by users or partners. We do not guarantee that any listing is complete, current, or suitable for your needs. You should verify important details (dates, prices, access, safety) with organisers and businesses directly.

Accounts

You must provide accurate registration information and keep your password secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms or put the service or others at risk.

Your content

You retain ownership of content you submit. By submitting listings (events, offers, business profiles, images, links, and descriptions), you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, moderate, promote, and adapt that content as needed to run and improve the guide (including on our website and in reasonable marketing). You confirm you have the right to grant this licence.

You must not submit content that is unlawful, misleading, defamatory, infringing, or harmful.

Moderation

We may review, edit, refuse, or remove any submission or account, with or without notice, especially where content is inappropriate, inaccurate, duplicates existing material, or conflicts with how we operate the site. Approval of a listing does not mean we endorse the underlying business or event.

Fees and payments

Some features may require payment (for example directory subscriptions or paid listing tiers). Prices and billing periods are shown at checkout. Payments are processed by Stripe; their terms and privacy policy also apply. Subscriptions renew according to the plan you choose until cancelled in line with Stripe’s customer billing portal or our checkout flow. Statutory rights are not affected where they apply.

Prohibited use

You must not misuse the site: no scraping that harms performance, no attempting to bypass security or payments, no introducing malware, no impersonation, and no use that violates applicable law.

Intellectual property

The site’s design, branding, and original editorial content belong to us or our licensors unless stated otherwise. Wikimedia or third-party images used under licence remain subject to their respective licences and attributions shown on the site.

Disclaimer

The service is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site or reliance on listings. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under UK law (including death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).

Changes

We may change these terms or the service. We will update the “Last updated” date when we change the terms. Material changes may also be signposted on the site. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance where the law allows.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction, except that consumers resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland may also bring proceedings in their home jurisdiction where mandatory consumer rules apply.

Privacy and contact

Our Privacy policy explains how we use personal data. For questions about these terms or the service, email info@thelakedistrictguide.com.
