Windermere
The village at the railway station, up the hill from Bowness and the lake.
Windermere village is the town at the end of the branch railway, about a mile uphill from Bowness and the lake. Orrest Head, the viewpoint Wainwright wrote about as a boy, starts from the station. Bowness is where the boats are. The lake itself is listed separately. If you arrive by train, this is where you step off, and the 555 bus runs through on its way to Ambleside and Keswick.
